The community and enthusiasm at Sunshine are fostered by the teachers who respect each child and their family, and who know that a cooperative preschool is truly a partnership for the benefit of our future.
Working with children is my passion! As a child, I always knew that I would grow up to be a teacher. I never wavered and have been teaching for over 20 years. And every day I feel like I have the best job in the world!
I received my Elementary/Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from UC Irvine and have taught grades 2-6 in Irvine Unified School District and Fullerton School District. I have also been a substitute for many years in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. I never really considered teaching little ones until my children attended preschool, and I realized that three and four year olds are so amazingly bright and capable! My four children all attended Sunshine Preschool... it was the perfect fit for a teacher mama! And after my youngest graduated from 3-Day, I was blessed to have the opportunity to become the Director and 3-Day teacher in 2009.
My journey with Sunshine Preschool has been very special. The families and staff members with whom I am honored to work, and their precious children, enrich my life every day. And nothing warms my heart more than the continued connections we all share. Sunshine is truly a loving and kind community.
I am so grateful and excited to be a part of Sunshine Preschool! Sunshine has brought so much love and light into my life.
I found Sunshine when I was looking for a preschool for my son, and it was exactly what I was searching for! The heart of the philosophy is kindness and safety, both really emphasize my core values as a momma and a teacher. I have dual bachelor’s degrees in Early Childhood with concentrations in Human Development and Psychology from Cal State San Bernardino. I am also American Montessori Certified from UC Irvine. I have taught preschool for over ten years in many different settings and to me Sunshine is the perfect preschool!
I am overjoyed to teach the 2-day class! My passion for teaching is being able to make a difference in children's lives, and for them to make a difference in mine!
After six years as a co-op parent, and the last two years as a Sunshine parent, I am beyond the moon in being the 4-day Teacher at Sunshine Preschool. I believe in creating spaces for children to play, develop their imagination, explore their ideas, and wonder about the world around them.
I currently hold an Early Childhood Development Teaching Credential, as well as a B.A. Degree in Sociology from the California State University, Long Beach. I also have many studies in the post-baccalaureate program of Elementary Education. Before settling down to have a family of my own, I spent many years in teaching positions including: Pre-school, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and 3rd Grade classrooms.
My passion lies in working with children in the community nursery school setting. It brings me joy to know that I can help create an environment that allows children to do what they do best: play. Play allows children to immerse themselves in experience, solve problems, and create possibilities. I am beyond happy to be part of this very special preschool and look forward to all the promising adventures that await the very special little people of your world and mine.
Last year was my first year as a Sunshine parent and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my daughter and for me. With a background as an early childhood educator I knew what I was looking for and found it here. From the parent volunteer co-op idea to the loving and caring environment, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. And now I am lucky enough to work here!
I received my Early Childhood/Elementary Teaching Credential from Southeast Missouri State University and my Masters Degree in Elementary Education with a Reading Endorsement from Northern Arizona University. I have taught preschool, kindergarten, reading, and first grade with my most recent experience in Hermosa Beach School District. I am a fieldwork instructor for Loyola Marymount University as well as a curriculum writer for graduate level teaching courses. Being a teacher is not just a vocation for me, it is my passion. Student driven ‘aha’ moments, creative ideas, problem solving situations, and much more remind me everyday that I picked the right career!
As a preschool teacher I encourage inquisitive curiosity through thoughtful questioning. I believe that teachers and parents can work together to create a caring and loving environment. It is my objective to create a classroom where students are encouraged to discover through activities that encourage teamwork, socialization and problem solving. I am proud to work with the families, teachers, and all the amazing little minds in 4-day this year.
